The Magicians Wife and the Month of May

by

It’s been a crazy month…

Three weeks alone, still having to work and keep my sanity with a 6 month old… yeah. It’s been tough.

I am very happy Chris is back. The week at the Magic Castle we had together was absolutely amazing. I took a new look at things while I was there and it enhanced my life experience 1000% and bled into one of the more challenging months I’ve ever had. Which made it not as bad as it could have been.

(the second week Chris was gone, I had to take the baby  in to have a little thing done and both dogs had mouth surgeries, resulting in one of the dogs being very sick and everyone was on antibiotics..Yeah, awesome)

Even though Chris was gone, I still got my magic fix. Theory11 released Crush at the end of April and sales have been going through the roof. I must say its always a good feeling to know you put out a great product. I was also able to see Phantom and Jabbawokeez in the same week.

Let me just say that the Jabbawokeez were a-maz-ing. For a dance troupe to be that inventive and theatrical with being just winners of some reality competition, it was brought, and I loved every second of it. I am so happy for them. They have came from starving artists to being in the big room where THE DC performs on a nightly basis and they were SOLD OUT every night. You can’t help but say “good for them”. They work hard, they take pride in their performance and I can’t wait to see what they bring to the table in a few years, no doubt it will be out of this world if they have the right people behind them. Yay Jabbas!

That same week, I saw Phantom. Now I’m going to be honest and I’m probably going to be stoned by the theater people of the world, but Andrew Lloyd Weber is hit or miss with me. In the Phantom case, it was a miss. Don’t get me wrong, I respected that these performers sang there hearts out, which is very hard to do in a dry climate like Las Vegas. The singers were very good and the dancers were beautiful. I had much appreciation for the TALENT. However the show as a “whole” lacked something.. can’t quite put my finger on it, but I kept thinking “Lance Burton: The Musical” as I sat there. In fact, I think Lance’s Show would be better and less of a snoozefest if they meshed the two shows together… I think it would be BRILLIANT.

In other news, I started a formspring.me/katiekenner  page. Here I have had some great questions regarding everything from dance classes to my family to the great David Copperfield. This formspring thing has had quite the opposite effect on me than it does on most people. I have a formspring for people to ask me good, appropriate questions about anything, of course they usually gravitate to my husband and life in Las Vegas. This is the best thing ever, now that I answer these questions I feel like less people are only my friends for ulterior motives, which is a good thing…trust me.

Also, dance season is coming to an end. This alone is enough for me to want to give up on life, especially at one particular place. However, I get to class the kids love you no matter what, they give it their all and thats all you can ask for. They are great, a little chatty for crunch time, but still great. I mentioned that I couldn’t leave to go out on tour this run. This is the reason why.. recitals are now in three weeks and there was no way I could have missed at the one studio. Most magicians have themselves to worry about… notice I said MOST, not ALL… I get it some of you have dancers… big deal. Anyway, I have over 50 dancers that I need to get ready for various routines for various studios in the Greater Las Vegas area… it’s a headache, but its so worth it to see them do something YOU taught them… I love dance… I really do…

SO that is all I have for now. My little one is sleeping, my husband is at a movie and I am here, writing a blog..on a Friday Night… in Las Vegas…

Love,

Katie

Katie, You might want to give Phantom a second chance. I think it’s an acquired taste. I saw it the first time and hated it…then saw it again a few years later and felt totally different about it.
